A Chilly Labor Day in Tahoe

8 September 2000

It was a chilly Labor Day in Tahoe, but once again the slots were certainly hot! With rain on Friday and Saturday, and snow falling on the peaks surrounding Lake Tahoe, people simply moved inside and took advantage of the situation. It was all bells and whistles all weekend long. Some folks had to have help lugging all those coins to the change booths... And some just simply took home large checks.

New slots adorn all the South Shore casinos... A new version of Monopoly, "Movers and Shakers," appeared, along with loads of new "Aussie" slots to amuse gamblers. I noticed that "Texas Tea" held great appeal to gamblers, and there sure is a lot of animation and sound effects with the game... It also appeared that the bonus features appeared a little more frequently, much to the obvious delight of the players. There are some new keno games to tinker with, found some Bally versions of nickel video keno at the Lakeside Inn that were interesting... Including one, "Goldmine Keno" where you don’t have to hit any numbers, just get three miners to appear at once, to launch you into an interesting bonus feature where you pick three gold nuggets, each with a different coin value. The feature appears often enough to hold any keno player's interest! Addam’s Family slots can be found at the Horizon Casino, Harrah’s Lake Tahoe, and Caesars Tahoe. These slots require a 45-coin nickel bet to win the progressive jackpot, and observations tell me that not many people are taking the progressive seriously. Most are playing 9-18 coins and are just happy to get to the bonus feature. If nostalgia isn’t your cup of tea, each of the casinos also has many new and interesting slots to fiddle with.

Now I put in a lot of time and energy into collecting the daily jackpots from the South Shore of Lake Tahoe’s casinos and putting them online on my TahoeGamingGuide.com, but the folks that make up TEAM HARVEYS are acting like the Energizer Bunny lately. They just finished one "Play a Year on Us" promotion, in which one lucky player, Franklin King, won $100,000 worth of "Reel Rewards" cards to play on, then they had two days of pure nostalgia and the perfect outdoor rock concert of all time with all those great bands... And they turn right around and offer another "Play a Year on Us" promotion, and offer chances all month long to win in all different ways... You can check with the Tahoe Player’s Club inside Harveys for details, or visit the convenient registration desk inside the doors coming in from the parking garage. Also coming, October and November mini-concert series in the cabaret....details coming next week.... Harveys just keeps rocking, and rocking, and rocking...

Horizon Casino is gearing up for two major events.... "Cool September Days" September 14-17th which is THE BIG CAR SHOW of the year, including SOCK HOPS, and the whole ball of wax....a definite end to the outdoor season at the lake, and an absolutely don’t miss event... I will be there with the digital camera... And then, for Halloween, the famous, big bash, total party of the year, THE FREAKER’S BALL... WHERE LOCALS AND VISITORS ALIKE GO TO EXTRAORDINARY LENGTHS TO OUTDO EACH OTHER WITH LAVISH AND OUTLANDISH COSTUMES... GET FREAKY IN TAHOE!

I have added a message board to the TahoeGamingGuide.com. Look for the link to the Gambler’s Pipeline, and please, by all means... say what you will... it is yours! As winter approaches and road and weather conditions get "iffy", I am bringing back to the top the links for the hourly road and weather conditions... and as the snow flies, so will the area ski reports return... Anyone can email me at any time to ask any Tahoe questions they have... I am still nagging the casinos to help me start a Question and Answer section to and from the casinos... Everyone keeps asking for that specifically. What do you think? Until the casinos are all paid sponsors, I have a lot of room to add, change, or delete things and actively seek input.

Please don’t forget to visit our VIP affiliates when you visit the progressive jackpots on the Lakeside Inn’s page on our site! They have a terrific lodging and food special package running for the Fall... And they are always friendly, always fun, always...! This is the place for an intimate gambling experience. Good people found here.

Just a reminder, Caesars Tahoe has some great Sunday and Monday NFL parties going on in their Race & Sportsbook... more details on their progressive jackpots page, and they have that Lamborghini Diablo, and a chance to break the bank for a million bucks...and new slots.

If things in your scenery have looked hot, dry, or smoky for too long, think Lake Tahoe. But bring a coat. Nights have been between 30 and 40 degrees! Great time of year to GAMBLE TAHOE! Soon the Aspen trees will change colors.... Fall in Tahoe... it doesn’t get any better!
