Golf, Gambling, Celebrities, and More Gambling

8 June 2001

Okay, so I don't spend my time on the golf course... but it is really hard to not notice what a great course lies adjacent to the casinos, and graces the shoreline of Lake Tahoe... Edgewood Tahoe, that is... And to not notice the press that starts this time of year about the 12th Annual American Century Celebrity Golf Championship coming up on July 7th - 9th would be unthinkable...

Discussions are already underway around town about who will be here, and whether Rick Rhoden will be a six-time champion... but what is known is that Caesars Tahoe will once again be jammed full of celebrities... in past I have passed notables such as John Elway and Michael Jordan in the lobby...

Tickets are available daily at the gate. Practice rounds on Tuesday, July 3, and Wednesday, July 4, are $10 each and $15 per day for the Celebrity-Am on Thursday, July 5, and for each round of the American Century Celebrity Golf Championship, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. For ticket or lodging information call 1-800-AT-TAHOE or 530-544-5050... Gambling gets hot and heavy when the celebrities are in town... you never know who you might be gambling with... at the tables or the slots... Caesars Tahoe has recently remodeled the Sports and Racebook, and has added new slot machines... the latest addition being "The Munsters" and Mikhon's "Battleship" along with all the latest Aussie-style nickel slots... Plus the addition of more casino floor space full of new slots to try out.

Harrah's Lake Tahoe is still undergoing rapid change after completing the west side remodel of the casino... and new slots are still hitting the casino floor. Not only is Harrah's the only place where you can play the new "Price is Right" slots... But it is host to some incredible physical transformations, with lots of elegant tile and tapestry-style carpets... Not to mention an elegant place to play the higher limits slots... I spent a lot of time on the Harrah's casino floor on Monday, getting re-acquainted with the new slot games... and some old favorites, as well. Another favorite for the fun factor is CDS' "Easy Street" nickel game, with lots of bonuses that, for a nickel game, can be lucrative! Among the new dollar slots is "Easy Money," which offers fun bonuses, and has a magnetic appeal... although I wanted to play this slot, I would have had to wait my turn. On the other hand, Harrah's was already taking care of that by installing another bank of these slots...

Harveys has added new slots too... whether it is because Harrah's bought Harveys recently, or just because... The slots are there... When you go to Harveys, you now can find multi-denomination versions of such favorites as "The Munsters" and "Catch a Wave".... Or you can try your hand at the new "$1,000,000 Pyramid" game... ninety nickel bets allow you to win up to a million bucks if you get 7 pyramid symbols inside the bonus winner's circle... Plus the only poker room on this side of Lake Tahoe... There is also a bright shiny new red Camaro convertible waiting to be won for two-quarters... Are you the one that will drive it away?

Lake Tahoe is so pretty and so cool at this time of year. While everyone else is sweating bullets, the lake in all its cool blueness waits... and our days are barely topping seventy degrees! Snow is still visible on the higher peaks, and it just adds that touch to the already scenic qualities. Come gamble in Lake Tahoe... Where everything is at its best!
