New Slots, Events, and Even a Couple of Coupons!

15 June 2003

I'm happy to say that maybe things are on the way up for the Reno Gaming Guide. I have a couple of print 'n' clip coupons for you for Boomtown Hotel and Casino in Reno so if you want to check them out, they are ready for printing! Now if I can just get all the casinos in Reno to put together some coupons for everyone, it'll be just terrific for everybody! I'd like to put together a whole book of coupons that I can offer people for only the cost of shipping and handling that will give all Reno visitors a whole fistful of fun!

New slots are appearing throughout Reno, and people are smiling as they collect their winnings, and sometimes laughing at the new bonus features on some of the games. Fitzgeralds Reno has some new "Hollywood Squares" machines... multi-coin, 9-line slots with some rewarding bonus games. You can win big in both bonus rounds, or on one of the nine lines!

Another new slot appearing at Boomtown Hotel and Casino is Konami's Solstice Gold. I've seen the game appearing here and there for the multi-denominational coin fans... but usually when I spot the game it is being played. So I can't tell you first hand how it works, but it looks fun!

Over at Gold Dust West they have the new "SPAM" game, and again, both the new ones were being played, so I haven't had the privilege to play the game and see for myself... I do know the ladies playing both of them had large numbers for credits... so that says something for the game!

And over at Gold Ranch Casino & RV Resort in Verdi, they have replaced a whole row of the older quarter games, so there are new versions of Triple Diamond and Triple Jackpot slots as well as the addition of a couple of new Game King (IGT) multi-denominational games... you can play pennies or nickels and have a good choice of both the popular poker games, as well as the popular keno games, or you can bet quarters or dollars and have a good choice of video poker games. And don't forget, the monthly drawings, June 14th, July 3rd, August 23rd, for cash... hourly from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. And you must be present to win...and on Monday, September 15th, it is Jeep Liberty Day! That's when somebody is going to win a 2003 Jeep Liberty at 7 p.m.! And from 7:30 to 9 p.m. there will be more great drawings for more super prizes. Oh, and by the way, the July and August drawings will also offer a customer appreciation barbecue.

Have you lost that party spirit and feel left out of today's late-night scene? Harrah's Reno has just the answer. Aqua: a Splash of Music, Motion, and Spirits is the new nightspot that will define "cool" this summer. Aqua will be open on Fridays and Saturdays from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. with a cover charge of $5. Located inside Harrah's Reno at the heart of downtown Reno, Aqua is the only location where patrons will find an elegant atmosphere mixed with the classic music of the 1970s and 1980s.

"We will provide customers a chance to step back into the past and enjoy an evening of great music and good entertainment," says Dave Monroe, Director of Hotel and Food and Beverage. "This will be a non-threatening environment for the slightly older crowd."

Aqua will feature an extensive video library on a 12-foot screen and several other monitors, the emphasis being on the classic videos from the glory days of MTV. There will be no hip-hop or rap, just fun music for those who remember the originals. DJ Jamie G will spin the platters. Boogie nights are back. In keeping with the theme of Aqua, the bar will feature an extensive selection of specialty waters, along with the more traditional libations. The d├ęcor and color scheme of Aqua is in keeping with its name, providing the ambience customers have grown to expect from Harrah's, luxurious and relaxed, accommodating and inviting, and creating a refuge from the contemporary scene. At last, a place for the older set to have a good time! (I never thought I'd say that, but then again, I can't picture myself in a mosh pit! )

Aqua will be open on Fridays and Saturdays from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. Both nights are special with Flashback Fridays and Disco Saturdays. A cover charge of $5 will allow customers to take the plunge, although the first hour every night is free to everyone. Ladies should watch soon for a promotion in various locales in Reno that will provide them VIP access all evenings. So be the first to take a dip in the exhilarating waters of Aqua. For more information, call Harrah's Reno at (775) 786-3232.

Also, I've got new photos of jackpot winners from The Eldorado and the Silver Legacy for those who want to see them... just click on the link above to the Reno Gaming Guide and you'll see the links to the latest winners. Just think, everyone looks like normal people like ourselves... it could be one of us in those photos... all it takes is a nanosecond and that luck can be ours too!

The Reno Rodeo is coming up June 21-29, and the spirit of the old west takes over during this much appreciated event. Dining specials, drawings, barbecues, and entertainment, everything you could seek is probably going to be in Reno over the summer... so if you are coming to Reno, you will have something to do and something to see plus multiple chances to win, win, and win again!

An event coming up in July caught my eye, and I think if you happen to be in the Reno area July 26th and 27th, you might want to drop by Wingfield Park to see The Reno Celtic Celebration which is sponsored in part by IGT, Fitzgeralds, Foleys Irish Pub, Circus Circus, and the Reno Gazette-Journal. Take a ride through Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Brittany, or one of the other Celtic Nations. This year's event includes highland athletics with events to include the caber toss, the breamer stone throw, the heavy stone toss and more, as well as canine and feline exhibits, medieval re-enactment groups, Celtic Arts & Crafts, Clan/Society booths, bagpipe band performances, Celtic entertainment and more. I knew I heard bagpipes last year, from my vantage point at the time, I never saw anyone but it sounded like it came from the top of the hills somewhere behind where I was.

Thunder Valley made a big boom when it opened this past Monday. The evening news showed zillions of cars trying to crowd into the already full casino, they estimated that 8,000 people attended the opening of the new casino located on the California side of the Sierras... every one of the 1900 slot machines and 100 table games appeared to be full. I was asked if I thought it would hurt Reno much, since Station Casinos had mailed their "Boarding Pass" players club card to thousands of Californians... and I think it will keep a certain amount of the day trippers on that side of the mountain, but if it continues to be crowded and without a hotel, then I think it will be minimal... because Reno offers such a rich fabric of things to do all in one place. If you can't get to a slot machine, you can pretty much just wander your way through various different casinos until you find the spot you were searching for. The tribal casinos are scattered, and until more are built, I think it will still be okay. Subscribers are telling me they are still coming to Reno, still looking for the Nevada experience... yes, they love their Tribal casinos, but they are still coming. And that's good news for Reno.

So if you want a little scenery with your gambling, and a whole lot of fun, as well as things to do and eat... might as well think Reno! And don't forget, the 8th Annual Great Eldorado BBQ, Brews & Blues Festival coming up July 28th and 29th... The one I mentioned last week with great blues free on two stages outside Harrah's and outside the Eldorado, it is a festival not to miss... and you can mix it right in with the rodeo! So check the casino directory on the Reno Gaming Guide, subscribe to the weekly e-newsletter, check on some tournaments, or ask me a question. That's what I'm here for.

Please tell all your friends and family about the Reno Gaming Guide too... and if you have just a moment, stick a pin in the guest map and let everyone know where you're from!
