Tahoe's River of Cash Continues to Flow

8 June 2000

I haven't seen anything like this in ages. Somebody lined up the three jackpot symbols on the Caesars Tahoe Lamborghini Diablo last weekend. Again, the magic number in Tahoe was $9 total coin-in to win something superb! The lucky winner chose the cash option instead of the car. So if you like shiny neon yellow "fantasy" cars, you can still see the Lamborghini. The last $9 bet super-win prior to the car was when Elio Leon hit the $7.7 million MegaJackpot at the Horizon. It must be the cool mountain atmosphere, or the water. Whatever it is, it appears to be working quite well. There are still quite a few exceptional jackpots, cars, trucks, and motorcycles gracing Tahoe casino floors...do you have $9 and feel lucky?

I have noticed a great increase in new slot banks appearing on the casino floors as I make my way through the Lake Tahoe casinos on my daily hunt for progressive jackpot amounts that I post online by 6 am on the TahoeGamingGuide.com. Lots of expanded banks, too. I don't think anyone thought that the 9-line nickel Wheel of Fortune slots would prove to be so popular. Many casinos have added many more to handle the crowds. BananaRama is proving that people and monkeys make good companions...I have caught some local quarter keno players laughing as they yank the handle on this one. Also noticed an increase in the number of people seeking their way to the progressive poker banks. Doesn't matter which denomination of coin, demand is increasing steadily. Also increasing is the number of people playing the new version of "Casting for Cash" by WMS Gaming, which is the multiple-bonus feature version of their popular "Reel Em' In" slot machine. These had me concerned; their popularity was slow to catch on. It appears that this one is winning them over, as several satisfied players have stopped me 'enroute' just to tell me how much they had won, and that they had fun with the bonus features. Again, entertainment and amusement value, plus good paybacks grabbed their attention.

Back to Tahoe activities...This weekend, the Horizon is host to the 3rd Annual "Tahoe Truckin'" Fun Run from June 9-11th. For anyone who missed the Motorcycle Show n' Shine at the Tahoe Biltmore last weekend, and still wants to see Harley's and Indians en masse...Harley's at the Horizon is coming up the weekend right after the trucks. Second chance, second excuse to visit Tahoe. Caesars Tahoe is still offering Emperor's Club members a chance to "Break the Bank" and win a million bucks, plus...that car...I LIKE THAT CAR! Harveys has its final tournament coming up to win a year's play on them ($100,000) on June 16th, and if you make it back by the Hard Rock Cafe, there is a really nice black corvette convertible... Lakeside Inn is getting ready to open a new SportsBook, La Taverna, mexican food, tavern, and expanded gaming options on their ground floor June 23rd. Harrah's entertains their gamblers with Jim Belushi and the Sacred Hearts this weekend, and the ever popular Ringo Starr and his All Star Band follows. Also, the newly remodelled restaurants atop Harrah's Tahoe are scheduled to re-open June 23rd. Everybody can find something to do here, gaming options abound, and they have lots of new slots, and all the old favorites, too!

No matter where you go in the Tahoe casinos, you will find friendly, smiling employees. I have to say something every time about these folks. They are so hard working, so helpful, so friendly, and I have to give them credit where credit is due. The wages aren't Las Vegas, the hours aren't always what they would like them to be, but they remain the nicest people on the planet. Worthy of my praise--and my tips.
